About the Opportunity

A growing energy infrastructure developer is seeking a Staff Engineer to support the development and execution of power generation and energy transition projects. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a diverse portfolio of assets that strengthen grid reliability, support economic growth, and advance the evolving energy landscape.
The successful candidate will work closely with engineering and project development teams to evaluate technical solutions, support project execution, and provide engineering expertise across various generation technologies, including thermal generation, renewable energy, and energy storage systems.

Key Responsibilities

Site Evaluation & Feasibility Analysis

  • Assess potential project sites and provide technical recommendations regarding development suitability.
  • Evaluate both generating facility locations and associated interconnection infrastructure opportunities.
  • Support early-stage project screening and due diligence efforts.

Technology & Equipment Assessments

  • Perform technical reviews of generation technologies, equipment suppliers, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Compare technology options based on performance, reliability, economics, and project requirements.
  • Recommend optimal solutions for specific development opportunities.

Plant Design & Performance Modeling

  • Collaborate with engineering consultants, OEMs, and EPC contractors to develop preliminary plant designs.
  • Support preparation of performance and production models used for interconnection studies, permitting activities, commercial proposals, and financial analysis.
  • Maintain technical assumptions used throughout project development.

Interconnection Support

  • Lead technical activities associated with generator interconnection requests.
  • Coordinate project sizing, electrical system requirements, and study inputs for regional transmission organizations and independent system operators.
  • Review and support responses to interconnection studies and utility requirements.

Infrastructure Planning

  • Evaluate alternatives for required project infrastructure, including:
    • Electrical interconnections
    • Natural gas supply systems
    • Water supply and discharge solutions
    • Telecommunications infrastructure
    • Site access and transportation improvements
    • Distribution and transmission system upgrades

Engineering & Site Layout Development

  • Work with engineering consultants to develop site plans and conceptual designs.
  • Support preparation of grading plans, drainage and stormwater management documents, facility layouts, elevations, and interconnection drawings.
  • Review engineering deliverables to ensure alignment with project objectives.

Permitting & Regulatory Support

  • Provide technical input during environmental, permitting, and regulatory processes.
  • Assist project managers in addressing engineering-related permit requirements.
  • Track technical compliance obligations throughout development and construction phases.

Financial & Commercial Support

  • Develop technical inputs for project financial models, including:
    • Energy production estimates
    • Capital cost assumptions
    • Operating and maintenance expenses
    • Lifecycle and operational capital expenditures
  • Support technical due diligence activities with lenders, investors, and independent engineering firms.
  • Coordinate engineering reviews required for project financing activities.

Cross-Functional Project Support

  • Partner with development, construction, commercial, and operations teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in identifying technical risks and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Support negotiations involving engineering, procurement, and construction-related matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting utility-scale power generation, renewable energy, or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of technologies such as combined-cycle generation, simple-cycle generation, reciprocating engines, solar PV, battery energy storage systems, or other emerging energy technologies.
  • Familiarity with interconnection processes, permitting requirements, and project development activities.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple technical workstreams in a fast-paced project environment.
