Chicago or Springfield | Bridge Project Engineer

A well-established engineering consulting firm is seeking a Structural Bridge Engineer to join its growing transportation team in Chicago and Springfield, Illinois. This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of bridge rehabilitation, replacement, and new structure projects while collaborating with experienced bridge engineers throughout the organization.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys technical bridge design, client interaction, and the chance to take on increasing project leadership responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis, design, and detailing for bridge projects
  • Prepare bridge plans, specifications, and construction documents
  • Support bridge rehabilitation, replacement, and new bridge design projects
  • Collaborate with transportation engineers and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Communicate directly with clients and project stakeholders
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables
  • Conduct periodic field visits and construction observation
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to technical excellence across the bridge team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
  • 5+ years of structural or bridge engineering experience
  • Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Illinois Structural Engineer (SE) license, or ability to obtain within 12 months
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities

Preferred Experience

  • Experience on IDOT bridge projects
  • Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
  • Bridge rehabilitation and replacement design experience
  • Understanding of bridge hydraulics and related roadway considerations
  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineering
