Civil Site Development Engineer

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Civil Site Development Engineer to join a growing in-house civil engineering team in Houston. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of site design and plan production from concept through permitting while collaborating closely with land development, architecture, structural, survey, construction, project management, and business development professionals under one roof.

Unlike traditional consulting environments, all work is performed on internal development projects, allowing engineers to focus on quality design, project delivery, and technical excellence without the pressures of billable hours, external clients, or timesheets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead civil site design efforts for industrial, commercial, and institutional developments
  • Prepare construction and permitting plans for paving, drainage, utilities, grading, and access improvements
  • Perform detailed site grading and Civil 3D terrain modelling
  • Design stormwater systems using Rational Method and Manning's hydraulics
  • Coordinate with in-house multidisciplinary teams throughout project delivery
  • Collaborate with external consultants, engineers, and subcontractors as required
  • Support projects from initial concept through permitting and construction

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • PE licence or EIT actively pursuing PE registration
  • 5-10+ years of relevant site development experience
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Proven experience producing civil engineering plans and technical design work

Preferred Experience

  • Industrial site development experience
  • Commercial and institutional project experience
  • Advanced grading and earthwork design
  • Storm drainage and utility design
  • Familiarity with local Houston-area regulations, permitting processes, and development codes

Why Join?

  • Family-owned, non-corporate culture
  • Very low employee turnover
  • No timesheets
  • No external client pressures
  • Work exclusively on internal development projects
  • Collaborative design-build environment
  • Strong long-term career stability
  • Opportunity to remain highly involved in engineering and technical project delivery

If you're an engineer who enjoys designing, producing plans, and solving site development challenges rather than spending your time on corporate processes and project administration, we'd love to hear from you.
