Construction Services Department Manager

Location: Atlanta, GA

Overview

A growing engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Construction Services Department Manager to lead and expand its Construction Materials Testing (CMT) and Special Inspections practice in the Atlanta market. This is a senior leadership role focused on operational excellence, team development, and regional growth.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, mentor, and develop field, laboratory, and project management teams
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
Support hiring, onboarding, and professional development initiatives

Operations & Project Management

Oversee daily operations of CMT and inspection services (lab + field)
Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to quality standards
Manage staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation
Review technical reports, proposals, and project deliverables
Provide oversight for materials testing, inspections, and QA/QC processes

Business Development & Client Relationships

Build and maintain strong relationships with contractors, developers, engineers, and public agencies
Identify and pursue new business opportunities
Support proposals, client presentations, and win strategies
Contribute to regional growth and market expansion

Financial & Department Management

Manage departmental budgets, forecasting, and profitability
Monitor utilisation, performance metrics, and operational efficiency
Provide regular financial and operational reporting to senior leadership

Required Experience & Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field
10+ years of experience in Construction Materials Testing, Special Inspections, or construction consulting
Proven leadership experience managing teams, operations, and client relationships
Strong knowledge of construction materials, QA/QC, and industry standards (ASTM, AASHTO)
Experience with business development and securing new work
Professional Engineer (PE) licence preferred but not essential
