Control Engineer

This role focuses on delivering Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) solutions both at company facilities and at customer locations. The individual will be responsible for analyzing customer material‑handling needs and creating software and/or hardware solutions that meet or exceed performance expectations. The position requires the ability to design, develop, test, and document AGV systems. The role involves independent work as well as close collaboration with project teams to provide technical support across the full product line, including system integration, programming, commissioning, installation, and startup activities. Maintaining strong customer relationships and upholding Scott Systems International's reputation as a reliable automation provider is essential.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Duties

  1. Program and configure AGV vehicles and system components.
  2. Conduct on‑site installation, system testing, customer training, and ongoing support.
  3. Perform system updates, troubleshooting, repairs, and product enhancements.
  4. Follow internal 5S standards and promote safe work practices.
  5. Ensure project timelines, milestones, and deliverables are met.
  6. Contribute to the creation of operations and maintenance manuals.
  7. Provide daily status updates to the Project Manager.
  8. Maintain accurate documentation related to all assigned tasks using approved templates and storage systems.

General Duties

a. Stay informed on current Scott Systems International procedures and best practices.
b. Follow all applicable health and safety standards and comply with company policies and industry regulations.
c. Support company compliance efforts where required.
d. Participate in training and professional development opportunities to advance personal and team capabilities-especially in communication, leadership, and technical integration.
e. Actively support and participate in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at delivering higher‑quality products and services more efficiently.
f. Perform any additional tasks assigned by leadership.


Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

  1. At least 5 years of experience in industrial automation, including PLC programming, Structured Text, and Codesys.
  2. Background working with Kollmorgen or Navitec AGV platforms is highly beneficial.
  3. Hands‑on experience with AGV systems.
  4. Familiarity with CAD tools is preferred.
  5. Strong electrical knowledge, including 480V three‑phase systems, DC controls, and battery‑powered mobile equipment.
  6. Ability to lead integration efforts for complex automated systems.
  7. Capability to train Scott Systems International personnel on both basic and advanced system programming and integration.
  8. Effective communicator, able to interact with customers, internal teams, and small groups.
  9. Strong technical writing skills for reports, procedures, and documentation.
  10. Comfortable presenting information to managers, customers, and general audiences.
  11. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  12. Self‑motivated, confident, and capable of instructing small groups; professional communication skills required.
  13. Awareness of commercial impacts, cost considerations, and potential sales opportunities.
  14. Must be at least 18 years old.
  15. Able to pass drug screening and reference checks.
  16. Strong mechanical and technical aptitude, with good organizational and interpersonal skills.
  17. Ability to perform well under pressure.
  18. High attention to detail and adherence to structured processes and reporting requirements.

Education & Experience

An associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Computer Science is preferred. Equivalent combinations of experience and education will also be considered. A bachelor's degree in one of these disciplines is desirable.
