Director of Business Development

A nationally recognized, employee-owned design-build contractor is looking to add a Director of Business Development to its Detroit team.

This is an opportunity to join a business that consistently wins some of the most complex industrial, manufacturing, logistics, mission critical, and commercial projects in the country. The platform is already established. The brand is well known. The focus is on building relationships, uncovering opportunities, and helping drive the next phase of growth.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Build relationships with developers, owners, architects, engineers, brokers, and industry influencers.
  • Identify and pursue new project opportunities across targeted markets and regions.
  • Expand market presence and create early engagement opportunities with prospective clients.
  • Stay close to economic trends, development activity, and emerging growth sectors.
  • Lead pursuit strategies alongside operations, project management, and marketing teams.
  • Represent the business at industry events, conferences, and networking functions.
  • Travel as needed to support clients and project pursuits across the U.S.

What They're Looking For

  • Proven success in construction business development, sales, or client development.
  • Strong knowledge of the AEC industry and design-build project delivery.
  • Ability to develop relationships that convert into project opportunities.
  • Experience working with developers, owners, architects, engineers, contractors, or end users.
  • Commercial mindset with strong communication and relationship-building skills.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Employee-owned business where employees directly benefit from the company's success.
  • Industry-leading bonus structure with significant earning potential.
  • One of the largest and most respected design-build platforms in the U.S.
  • National reach backed by a strong operational team and established project pipeline.
  • Paid sabbatical every five years, including a travel allowance.
  • Scholarships for employees' children, charitable matching, volunteer leave, and tuition assistance.
  • Opportunity to influence growth strategy rather than simply manage existing accounts.
  • Visibility with senior leadership and the freedom to operate entrepreneurially.

For business development professionals who enjoy creating opportunities, building long-term relationships, and working on high-profile projects, this offers a larger platform, greater impact, and meaningful long-term upside.
