Director of Survey & Engineering Operations

Location: Midland, Texas

Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and growth-oriented Director of Survey & Engineering Operations to establish, lead, and expand operations in the Midland market. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an experienced professional with a background in surveying, engineering, or both, and a proven track record supporting oil & gas, pipeline, facilities, and energy infrastructure projects.

The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership, business development, operational management, and client relationship skills while helping drive growth across West Texas. This role offers the opportunity to shape strategy, build high-performing teams, and play a key role in expanding regional operations.


Key Responsibilities

Practice Leadership & Growth

  • Establish and lead survey and engineering operations in the Midland market.
  • Develop and grow services supporting oil & gas, CO₂, hydrogen, renewable natural gas (RNG), pipeline, and facilities projects.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary teams across surveying, engineering, design, and project delivery.
  • Partner with executive leadership on business strategy, staffing, resource planning, and service expansion initiatives.
  • Foster a culture focused on accountability, collaboration, technical excellence, and exceptional client service.

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Serve as a key client-facing leader for energy infrastructure pursuits throughout West Texas.
  • Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities across upstream, midstream, and related energy markets.
  • Strengthen existing client relationships while cultivating new partnerships with operators, developers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Lead proposal development, presentations, contract negotiations, and pricing strategy efforts.
  • Represent the organization as a trusted industry partner and technical leader.

Project Oversight & Delivery

  • Provide oversight of project execution, ensuring quality, schedule, budget, and client expectations are achieved.
  • Support projects involving pipelines, compressor stations, meter stations, storage assets, processing facilities, and related infrastructure.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Monitor utilization, forecasting, staffing levels, and operational performance.
  • Proactively identify project risks and implement solutions to maintain successful project outcomes.

Technical & Operational Leadership

  • Provide senior-level guidance on survey and engineering projects supporting hydrocarbon and energy infrastructure developments.
  • Serve as a liaison between technical teams, operations leadership, and client stakeholders.
  • Apply practical knowledge of field operations, technical design, surveying services, and client requirements to support successful project delivery.
  • Lead quality assurance and quality control initiatives while promoting continuous process improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen capabilities, improve service delivery, and expand market presence.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of progressive experience supporting oil & gas, hydrocarbon, pipeline, facilities, or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated success leading survey, engineering, or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong understanding of project execution from a surveying, engineering, or operations management perspective.
  • Proven ability to generate new business and grow client accounts in a competitive market.
  • Experience managing project performance, staff development, and client relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Surveying, or a related technical discipline.
  • Familiarity with the Midland and West Texas energy market.
  • Professional licensure such as PE, RPLS, or similar credentials.
  • Experience supporting upstream, midstream, and energy infrastructure development projects.
