Engineering Supervisor

Job Overview

The Supervisor, High Voltage Engineering provides technical leadership and oversight for utility-scale renewable energy, substation, transmission, and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. This role is responsible for supporting high-voltage engineering activities from design review and procurement through construction, commissioning, and operational readiness while ensuring compliance with safety, utility, and industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high-voltage engineering efforts for utility-scale solar, BESS, substation, transmission, and collection system projects.
  • Supervise internal engineers, consultants, and technical personnel supporting design, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Review engineering deliverables, including protection and control schemes, electrical studies, interconnection documentation, equipment specifications, and construction packages.
  • Coordinate technical solutions related to substations, transmission interconnections, SCADA integration, protection systems, and energization activities.
  • Support engineering standards, value engineering initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts to enhance project performance and reliability.
  • Provide technical input for procurement, vendor selection, bid evaluations, project planning, and contractor oversight.
  • Collaborate with project management, construction, operations, utilities, engineers of record, and contractors to support successful project execution.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable utility requirements, OSHA, NESC, NEC, IEEE, and other industry regulations.
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff while promoting a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • PE license preferred; multi-state licensure is a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience leading substation, transmission, renewable energy, or BESS projects.
  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage systems, including substations, transmission lines, protection and controls, utility interconnections, and collection systems.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, NESC, NEC, IEEE, and utility standards.
  • Experience reviewing technical documentation, equipment specifications, commissioning plans, and engineering deliverables.
  • Proven ability to lead technical teams, manage multiple projects, and coordinate with contractors, utilities, and project stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience supporting utility-scale solar and energy storage projects preferred.
