Location: San Francisco Bay Area / San Ramon, CA
(Hybrid / Remote Flexibility available for highly experienced candidates)

Compensation: 145,000 - 150,000
Key Responsibilities
  • Deconstruct complex project criteria, meticulously analyzing RFPs, engineering plans, technical specifications, and municipal contract documents to isolate scope, mitigate risks, and define clear project exclusions.
  • Execute detailed material and labor takeoffs, quantifying instrumentation, control panel builds, electrical installation materials, and software engineering scopes (PLC/SCADA/HMI).
  • Cultivate and evaluate vendor ecosystems, soliciting and normalizing competitive vendor/subcontractor quotes while modeling accurate internal labor budgets for panel fabrication, field installations, and commissioning cycles.
  • Lead bid-day deployment, compiling precise bid forms, technical proposals, and scope clarifications to ensure seamless, compliant submission to public works agencies.
  • Facilitate smooth operational handoffs, providing project management teams with airtight scope documentation, baseline budgets, and strategic pricing insights.
  • Optimize financial forecasting, tracking win/loss metrics to iteratively refine historical pricing models and market competitiveness.
Desired Qualifications
  • Industry Domain: 5+ years of dedicated professional estimating experience specifically focusing on instrumentation & controls, electrical construction, and systems integration-with a heavy emphasis on municipal water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Technical Architecture: A deep conceptual and practical understanding of what it takes to build, program, and commission an industrial control system (including MCCs, motor controls, VFDs, and PLC logic).
  • Public Works Literacy: Proven expertise navigating public agency bidding protocols, including prevailing wage mandates, bid bonds, and strict regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Schematic Fluency: Superior ability to fluidly interpret Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), electrical single-line schematics, control loop drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Location & Presence: Ideally based in the Bay Area to support local workflows, though full remote arrangements will be highly considered for candidates with a deep, proven track record in water/wastewater I&C estimating. Periodic regional travel for job walks and site assessments may be required.
Ideal Candidate
  • End-to-End Owner: Loves taking full ownership of the proposal cycle, transforming abstract engineering designs into structured, accurate financial bids.
  • Industry Insider: Thoroughly understands how municipal water infrastructure projects are structured, the roles of key consulting engineers/stakeholders, and how field execution shapes bidding requirements.
  • Analytical & Detail-Oriented: Combines a field-level understanding (perhaps as a former electrician, technician, or panel builder) with sharp proficiency in modern estimating software.
Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive Base Pay: Structured directly around your technical estimating expertise and industry tenure.
  • Performance Incentives: Annual discretionary corporate bonus program.
  • Unrivaled Family Wellness: Comprehensive medical coverage fully extending to the employee, spouse, and dependents.
  • Wealth Building: Robust 401(k) program featuring a Safe Harbor employer match and corporate profit-sharing initiatives.
