Land Survey Project Manager | New Jersey
The individual in this role will manage the full lifecycle of survey‑related project tasks that support engineering design efforts, while also serving as a technical resource when needed. A strong sense of accountability, dependable work habits, and an ability to maintain efficient staff workflow and schedule coordination are essential, as this position involves monitoring daily project progress.
This role will also include supervising and guiding junior personnel performing technical functions such as drafting, modeling, field data collection, LiDAR capture, and other survey‑specific tasks tied to the development of standard deliverables (e.g., maps, plans, legal descriptions, and related documentation).
A solid understanding of both common industry challenges and required procedures-aligned with municipal, county, state, and federal standards-is expected. This position requires extensive hands‑on experience and the ability to work with minimal oversight, consistently resolving issues and developing practical solutions that support timely and cost‑effective project delivery. The individual must be capable of organizing tasks efficiently, implementing productive work strategies, and providing leadership and mentorship within the team.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
(Approximate percentage of weekly effort)
- 50% - Oversight of technical execution, including QA/QC of survey plans, documents, and all related deliverables.
- 20% - Development of proposals, Statements of Qualifications, and similar materials.
- 20% - Staff coaching, professional development, and long‑term succession planning for team growth.
- 5% - Engagement with existing clients through business development activities, networking, and attendance at industry events.
- 5% - Enhancing project delivery effectiveness by promoting consistent processes and standards.
Education Requirements
A bachelor's degree from an accredited program-or equivalent qualifications-along with relevant continuing education is required.
Registration / Certification Status
- Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required.
- Multiple state licenses (NJ, NY, PA, and others) are strongly preferred.
Experience & Skill Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in the land surveying profession.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong ability to interpret and analyze survey/engineering documents, perform boundary evaluations, and write detailed descriptions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Skilled in Deltek Vision for project management.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Experience with survey field equipment (Trimble preferred): GNSS RTK systems, total stations, terrestrial LiDAR scanners, and related tools.
- Competence with survey processing and LiDAR software such as Trimble Business Center or comparable programs.
- Experience using photogrammetry and drone‑mapping tools such as Pix4D or equivalent.
