Mechanical Engineer Manager

Seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers and designers in delivering high-performance building systems across various sectors. This role blends technical oversight with project leadership, ensuring HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems meet client needs, code requirements, and sustainability goals.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Expertise

  • Apply advanced knowledge of HVAC and plumbing design in sectors such as government, healthcare, and education.
  • Lead HVAC system design (e.g., air handling units, chillers, boilers, VRF, ductwork) in compliance with ASHRAE standards and energy codes, integrating with BAS/BMS platforms.
  • Oversee plumbing system design including domestic water, sanitary, storm drainage, and specialty systems, ensuring IPC code compliance.
  • Supervise fire suppression system design (wet, dry, clean agent) in accordance with NFPA standards.
  • Coordinate with consultants and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs); review calculations, layouts, and submittals for accuracy and compliance.

Team Management

  • Supervise and mentor mechanical engineering staff.
  • Collaborate with HR on staffing and employee relations.
  • Identify team development needs and implement training initiatives.

Technical Oversight

  • Ensure technical quality and code compliance of all mechanical deliverables.
  • Approve discipline-specific documents and project change orders.
  • Provide professional engineering seals as required.

Project Execution

  • Support project managers with client engagement and proposal development.
  • Ensure project teams meet quality, budget, and schedule (QBS) goals.

Resource & Schedule Management

  • Develop and monitor project schedules and team workloads.
  • Ensure adequate staffing and resource allocation.

Travel & Licensing

  • Occasional travel required.
  • Valid driver's license necessary.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary Range: $140,000 - $170,000/year (based on location, education, experience, and certifications).
  • Incentives: Annual performance-based bonus eligibility.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.

Experience

  • 10-12 years of mechanical engineering experience, including leadership roles.
  • Background in government, education, and/or healthcare projects preferred.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)
