Position Summary
The Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager is responsible for supporting the successful execution of construction projects from preconstruction through completion. This role works closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, vendors, and clients to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The individual serves as a key technical resource for project teams and may take the lead on smaller projects while supporting larger, more complex assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination & Management
- Support Project Managers in the planning, execution, and closeout of construction projects.
- Collaborate with management, clients, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure project objectives are achieved.
- Maintain regular communication with project teams and stakeholders regarding project progress, budget status, schedule updates, and potential risks.
- Assist in developing and maintaining project schedules, work plans, and project tracking documentation.
Change Management
- Prepare, manage, and track change orders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Evaluate project modifications and estimate their impact on costs, schedules, labor requirements, and material procurement.
- Ensure all change order documentation is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
Technical Support
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documents.
- Provide technical guidance and clarification to field teams, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Analyze and resolve project-related issues, conflicts, and technical challenges as they arise.
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Procure project equipment, materials, and specialized services in accordance with project requirements.
- Coordinate with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of materials and equipment.
- Expedite procurement activities when necessary to maintain project schedules.
- Participate in the evaluation, selection, and onboarding of subcontractors and vendors.
Documentation & Compliance
- Assemble and manage complete submittal packages, RFIs, closeout documentation, and other project-related records.
- Ensure project documentation is accurate, organized, and maintained according to company standards.
- Monitor compliance with project specifications, contract requirements, safety standards, and quality expectations.
Problem Solving & Project Support
- Identify project risks and proactively recommend solutions.
- Investigate and resolve complex project questions, construction challenges, and coordination issues.
- Support field operations and provide assistance during critical project milestones.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
- 1-5+ years of construction project engineering, project coordination, or assistant project management experience.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, project documentation, and contract administration.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software.
Preferred
- Experience within MEP, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or mission-critical/data center construction projects.
- Knowledge of scheduling software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar platforms.
