Location: Edison, NJ & Vineland, NJ
A growing engineering and commissioning consultancy is seeking a Mission Critical Commissioning Engineer to support complex critical facility and data center projects. This role offers hands-on involvement throughout the commissioning process, from construction inspections and equipment startup through functional performance and integrated systems testing.
The position is open to engineers with a mechanical and/or electrical background. More experienced candidates may also have opportunities to lead commissioning activities and take greater ownership of projects.
The Mission Critical Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for:
- Preparing commissioning plans, checklists, test procedures, and project documentation.
- Performing construction inspections, startup verification, functional testing, and integrated systems testing.
- Supporting Level 1-5 commissioning activities on mission critical projects.
- Testing mechanical and/or electrical infrastructure including HVAC and cooling systems, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, batteries, and electrical distribution.
- Verifying BMS, EPMS, and DCIM systems, including alarms, interlocks, redundancy, emergency modes, and failure sequences.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, submittals, and testing documentation.
- Identifying and tracking commissioning deficiencies through resolution.
- Coordinating with owners, engineers, contractors, controls teams, vendors, and facility personnel.
- Preparing commissioning reports and providing updates on testing progress and open issues.
- Leading commissioning activities and project coordination as experience allows.
The Mission Critical Commissioning Engineer should have the following:
- 3+ years of experience in commissioning, MEP construction, facilities engineering, controls, TAB, equipment testing, or a related field.
- Experience with mechanical and/or electrical building systems.
- Exposure to data centers, mission critical facilities, or other high-availability environments preferred.
- Experience with HVAC, central plants, controls, electrical distribution, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, or similar infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, control diagrams, and sequences of operation.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Ability to travel to project sites and support off-hours testing when required.
- PE/EIT, CCP, CPMP, ACG/NEBB/AABC, PMP, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
