The Opportunity
Our client is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead the design and execution of large-scale hyperscale data center projects. This individual will serve as a technical leader, oversee electrical system design, act as Engineer of Record, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project lifecycle.
This is an opportunity to work on highly visible mission-critical developments while helping shape the electrical engineering strategy for a growing data center practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design for hyperscale and mission-critical data center facilities
- Serve as Engineer of Record and provide technical oversight on project deliverables
- Design medium-voltage and low-voltage power distribution systems, backup generation, UPS systems, grounding, and related critical infrastructure
- Perform and review power system studies including short-circuit, coordination, load flow, and arc flash analyses
- Coordinate with mechanical, structural, telecom, fire protection, and construction teams
- Develop design criteria, specifications, drawings, reports, and construction documentation
- Support client meetings and provide technical leadership throughout design and construction
- Participate in site visits, field investigations, commissioning activities, and design reviews
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to quality assurance initiatives across projects
- Stay current on emerging data center technologies, power infrastructure trends, and industry best practices
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- 10+ years of electrical engineering experience
- Extensive experience designing electrical systems for data centers, mission-critical facilities, or other complex industrial infrastructure
- Strong understanding of NEC, NFPA, IBC, and applicable industry standards
- Experience with power system analysis software such as SKM, ETAP, EasyPower, or similar platforms
- Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM coordination workflows
- Experience performing electrical system studies and developing construction documents
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Ability to travel periodically to project sites and client locations
