Principal Electrical Engineer
A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a senior-level Electrical Engineer to provide technical leadership, engineering oversight, quality review, and mentorship across a diverse portfolio of power generation and infrastructure projects. This position serves as a key technical resource within the organization, supporting project teams, reviewing engineering deliverables, mentoring staff, and assisting with client-facing activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership on electrical engineering projects from concept development through design, construction support, and project closeout.
- Act as a senior engineering resource, supporting project teams on complex technical challenges and design decisions.
- Review engineering deliverables for quality, completeness, code compliance, constructability, and technical accuracy.
- Support the development of calculations, specifications, drawings, studies, reports, and other engineering documentation.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers across various experience levels.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews while promoting consistent engineering standards and best practices.
- Support client meetings, site visits, field investigations, and construction-phase engineering activities.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve technical issues, mitigate project risks, and support project execution.
- Assist with process improvements, technical standards development, and engineering workflow enhancements.
- Support proposal development, scope creation, engineering planning, and technical input for business opportunities.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards, and engineering practices.
- Interface professionally with clients, contractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Approximately 10+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Experience with power systems design, construction support, field coordination, and client-facing engineering work.
- Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and industry best practices.
- Ability to review and guide the development of calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, and technical studies.
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and supporting technical team development.
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
- Experience supporting project planning, budgets, schedules, and proposal efforts is preferred.
- Background in power generation, industrial, commercial, or related electrical infrastructure projects is highly desirable.

- Electrical power system design and analysis.
- Power generation facilities, switchyards, facility upgrades, commissioning support, and modernization projects.
- Protection and control systems engineering.
- Substation and utility infrastructure.
- Power distribution systems.
- Protective relaying and relay coordination.
- Medium- and high-voltage electrical systems.
- Switchgear, transformers, circuit breakers, MCCs, and emergency power systems.
- Grounding, lighting, cable systems, duct banks, and raceway design.
- One-line diagrams, load flow studies, short circuit analysis, voltage drop calculations, and system studies.
- Engineering quality review and construction document development.
- Working knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA 70E, OSHA requirements, and applicable industry standards.
