A nationally recognized engineering consulting firm is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to lead and grow its Repair & Rehabilitation practice in Tampa.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced structural engineer with a strong background in existing structures, forensic investigations, restoration, retrofit, and rehabilitation projects, combined with a proven ability to develop client relationships and drive business growth.
The Opportunity
As a Principal, you will provide technical leadership on complex structural projects while acting as a key client-facing representative responsible for project delivery, business development, and mentoring engineering teams.
You will lead investigations of existing structures, develop practical repair and rehabilitation solutions, oversee project execution, and help expand the firm's presence across Florida and beyond.
Responsibilities
- Lead investigations of deteriorated, damaged, distressed, or underperforming structures.
- Direct the design of structural repair, strengthening, restoration, and retrofit solutions.
- Evaluate existing buildings and structures for adaptive reuse, increased loading, and code compliance.
- Serve as the technical lead on complex repair and rehabilitation projects.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and client communication.
- Develop proposals, project approaches, staffing plans, and fee estimates.
- Oversee technical reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, and presentations.
- Support forensic investigations involving structural failures, damage, and claims.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships.
- Mentor and develop junior and senior engineering staff.
- Contribute to business development activities and strategic growth initiatives.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across multiple technical disciplines.
Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- 15+ years of structural engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
- Extensive experience with existing buildings, restoration, rehabilitation, retrofit, and forensic engineering projects.
- Demonstrated success leading large, technically complex projects.
- Proven client development and business development experience.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and project management abilities.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Active involvement in industry organizations, committees, or technical publications is highly desirable.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
