About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and bilingual Project Engineer to support the operational phase of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across Japan. This role is based in Tokyo and will focus on the commissioning, performance optimization, and life cycle support of BESS assets. The ideal candidate will have a strong electrical engineering background, hands-on commissioning experience, and fluency in Japanese (business-level or higher), with working proficiency in English.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support commissioning activities for BESS projects, ensuring systems are safely and efficiently brought online.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including EPCs, OEMs, and asset managers to ensure smooth handover from construction to operations.
- Monitor and analyze system performance, identifying and resolving operational issues.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, including commissioning reports, test procedures, and O&M manuals.
- Support root cause analysis and troubleshooting of electrical and control systems.
- Coordinate with local utilities, regulatory bodies, and contractors to ensure compliance with Japanese standards and grid requirements.
- Provide technical input during project development and design reviews to ensure operational readiness.
- Travel to project sites across Japan as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in commissioning or operations of electrical infrastructure, preferably in renewable energy or energy storage.
- Strong understanding of power systems, inverters, BMS, and SCADA systems.
- Fluent in Japanese (reading, writing, speaking); business-level English proficiency.
- Familiarity with Japanese electrical codes and grid interconnection standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel domestically for site support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with BESS technologies (e.g., lithium-ion systems).
- Knowledge of project management tools and methodologies.
- Certifications in electrical safety or commissioning (e.g., P.E., QC, etc.) are a plus.
