A leading Heavy Civil General Contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to join its growing team in the Portland, Oregon market. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated construction professional looking to gain exposure to large-scale infrastructure projects including highways, bridges, site development, utilities, excavation, grading, and transportation work.
The Project Engineer will work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to help ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with project planning, scheduling, and execution
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
- Coordinate with subcontractors, owners, engineers, and field teams
- Track project costs, quantities, and production progress
- Support procurement of materials and equipment
- Review plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Participate in project meetings and maintain accurate records
- Ensure compliance with company safety and quality standards
- Assist with project closeout and turnover documentation
Experience Needed
- 1-5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction
- Experience on projects involving earthwork, utilities, roadways, bridges, site development, or transportation infrastructure
- Exposure to public works or DOT projects is preferred
- Understanding of construction means and methods
- Experience assisting with RFIs, submittals, scheduling, and project documentation
- Ability to work effectively in both office and field environments
Qualifications Required
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience with project management software is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites as needed
