Staff II / Project I Environmental Engineer or Geologist
Location: Doylestown, PA (Hybrid - Minimum 3 days/week in office)
Salary Range: $75,000-$90,000, depending on experience and credentials (PE/PG license places candidate at higher end)
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated Staff II or Project I Environmental Engineer or Geologist with approximately 3-5 years of professional experience under the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Site Remediation Program (SRP).
This role offers the opportunity to work on complex site assessment and remediation projects alongside New Jersey Licensed Site Remediation Professionals (LSRPs) and Professional Engineers (PEs). The position involves a dynamic mix of field work, data analysis, technical report preparation, and task management, with an average split of 50% field / 50% office work.
Key Responsibilities
Field & Site Work
- Conduct environmental field activities, including soil, groundwater, and vapor intrusion investigations.
- Participate in field components of Preliminary Assessments (PA), Site Investigations (SI), Remedial Investigations (RI), and Remedial Action (RA) activities.
- Oversee contractors and support LSRP‑led remediation activities at complex New Jersey SRP sites.
Technical Analysis & Documentation
- Perform quantitative and qualitative data analysis to support site characterization and remedial decision‑making.
- Prepare technical reports, including:
- Preliminary Assessment Reports
- Site Investigation Reports
- Remedial Investigation Reports
- Remedial Action Workplans and associated documentation
- Support preparation of design drawings and figures (AutoCAD experience is a plus).
- Maintain high standards of accuracy and clarity in technical writing.
Project & Task Management
- Manage discrete technical tasks under the supervision of senior professionals.
- Coordinate field schedules, subcontractors, sampling events, and data organization.
- Ensure deliverables meet NJDEP guidance and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and communicate progress effectively.
Required Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience (flexible to 2-7 years depending on fit) working under NJDEP SRP regulations.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, or a related technical discipline.
- EIT (Engineer‑in‑Training) or GIT (Geologist‑in‑Training) credential with a demonstrated path toward professional licensure (PE or PG).
- Strong technical writing skills-must be able to prepare clear, well‑structured, regulatory‑compliant reports.
- Ability to perform physically demanding field work in varying environmental conditions.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
- LSRP certification or progress toward becoming an LSRP (highly desirable but not required).
- Experience preparing documents under NJDEP standards and guidance manuals.
- AutoCAD or other drafting software experience.
- Previous work on complex remediation projects involving innovative cleanup technologies.
Work Environment & Expectations
- This position requires working in the Doylestown, PA office at least three (3) days per week.
- Field work will occur at sites primarily in New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania.
- Average workload will consist of approximately 50% field work and 50% office/analytical/reporting work.
- We foster a collaborative, growth‑oriented environment where junior and mid‑level staff receive ongoing mentorship from LSRPs and PEs.
