QA Mechanical Inspector - Airport Construction

Our client, a leading program and construction management firm, is seeking an experienced QA Mechanical Inspector to support a major airport infrastructure program in the Tampa area. This position will play a critical role in overseeing mechanical quality assurance activities, ensuring contractor compliance, and maintaining the highest standards of construction quality on complex capital projects.
This opportunity is ideal for candidates with extensive experience inspecting mechanical systems on airports, transportation facilities, healthcare campuses, higher education projects, or other large commercial developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide quality assurance oversight across multiple airport construction projects.
- Review contractor Quality Control (QC) programs, inspection procedures, and testing plans.
- Review mechanical submittals, shop drawings, and technical documentation for compliance.
- Interpret contract documents and verify adherence to project specifications and QA/QC requirements.
- Conduct audits of contractor QC processes, documentation, and field implementation.
- Review testing and inspection reports, identify deficiencies, and verify corrective actions.
- Issue non-conformance reports and monitor closeout activities.
- Monitor BIM 360 workflows, issue tracking, and quality reporting systems.
- Track QA metrics, KPIs, audit findings, and inspection activities for reporting purposes.
- Participate in QA/QC meetings, OAC meetings, pre-installation meetings, and field inspections.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to field inspection teams.
- Document lessons learned and promote quality best practices across projects.
- Maintain professional communication with contractors, project teams, and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 10 years of mechanical construction inspection, commissioning, or quality assurance experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience inspecting mechanical systems on airports, transportation facilities, hospitals, higher education projects, or similarly complex commercial facilities.
- Previous experience working as an Owner's Representative, Program Management Consultant, Construction Manager, or Quality Assurance Inspector.
- Strong understanding of mechanical building systems, construction practices, and quality standards.
- Experience reviewing mechanical drawings, specifications, testing reports, and contractor documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Project.
- Experience with Bluebeam or similar construction document management software.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast-paced construction environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience on projects exceeding $25 million in construction value.
- Experience with airport infrastructure and active operational environments.
- Familiarity with electrification infrastructure projects.
- Experience overseeing MEP systems on large-scale capital improvement programs.
- Working knowledge of BIM 360, SharePoint, or similar project management platforms.
Preferred Certifications
Candidates with one or more of the following certifications are highly desirable:
- Florida DBPR Building Code Administrators & Inspectors License
- State Fire Inspector Certification
- Standard Mechanical Inspector Certification
- Standard Plumbing Inspector Certification
- NICET Fire Protection Certification
