My client, a nationally recognized engineering and infrastructure consulting firm, is seeking a Traffic Group Lead to join its growing transportation team. This opportunity can be based in Kansas City, MO, St. Louis, MO, or Chicago, IL and offers a hybrid work environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior traffic engineering professional who enjoys a combination of technical leadership, team development, project management, and business growth. The role will lead a regional traffic engineering group while overseeing the delivery of complex traffic operations and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects for DOTs, municipalities, and transportation agencies.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and grow a regional traffic engineering team, providing mentorship, technical guidance, and career development support.
  • Manage the planning, design, and delivery of traffic engineering and ITS projects across urban roadways, arterials, freeways, and multimodal transportation networks.
  • Oversee traffic studies, operational analyses, safety evaluations, roadway safety audits, and traffic impact studies.
  • Direct the design of traffic signals, ITS systems, signing and pavement marking plans, maintenance of traffic plans, and related transportation infrastructure improvements.
  • Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, staffing, and quality control efforts across multiple projects.
  • Collaborate with highway, bridge, utility, and municipal engineering teams to deliver integrated transportation solutions.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and help expand relationships with DOTs, municipalities, and regional agencies.
  • Support business development efforts, proposal preparation, and strategic growth initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience in traffic engineering, transportation engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience working with state DOTs and local transportation agencies.
  • Strong background in traffic operations, signal systems, traffic safety, and ITS.
  • Experience with traffic analysis software such as Synchro, HCS, SIDRA, and/or VISSIM.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office products.
