Quality Assurance Lead - Airport Construction (Structural)

Location: Tampa, Florida

Our client is a leading infrastructure consulting and construction management firm supporting major capital improvement programs across the United States. They are seeking an experienced Quality Assurance Lead to oversee quality assurance activities on a large-scale airport construction program in the Tampa area.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of high-profile aviation infrastructure projects, ensuring construction quality, regulatory compliance, and successful project outcomes in an active airport environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Owner's representative for Quality Assurance activities on a major airport construction program.
  • Monitor and review contractor Quality Control (QC) programs, procedures, and documentation to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Perform independent QA inspections, audits, and surveillance of structural work, materials, workmanship, and system installations.
  • Verify quality-related activities are executed in accordance with approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality manuals, and contract documents.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, submittals, material certifications, mill test reports, and inspection/testing documentation.
  • Identify non-conforming work, document deficiencies, track corrective actions, and verify resolution.
  • Coordinate with contractors, design-build teams, testing agencies, and project stakeholders to resolve quality issues.
  • Maintain QA logs, inspection reports, deficiency tracking systems, and closeout documentation.
  • Support commissioning, turnover, and project handover activities, ensuring all quality records are complete and compliant.
  • Participate in QA/QC meetings, readiness reviews, and stakeholder walkthroughs throughout project delivery.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction QA/QC inspection and quality management.
  • At least 3 years of experience on major airport, transportation, or similar large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of structural construction, construction materials, means and methods, and quality control processes.
  • Experience interpreting engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Knowledge of FAA guidelines, airport construction standards, and applicable building codes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple stakeholders and maintain detailed QA documentation.
  • Excellent communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience representing an Owner or Owner's Representative on public infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of airport operations, TSA/FAA regulations, and security requirements.
  • Experience with Design-Build or CMAR project delivery methods.
  • Proficiency with construction management and documentation platforms such as Procore, e-Builder, or Kahua.
  • Experience developing, implementing, or improving Quality Assurance programs.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Associate degree or equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
  • Candidates with extensive airport construction experience may also be considered.

Preferred Certifications

Candidates with one or more of the following certifications are highly desirable:

  • AWS
  • ICC
  • ACI
  • ASNT
  • Other relevant QA/QC or construction inspection certifications
