Senior Electrical Engineer - REMOTE
An established architecture and engineering firm headquartered in Charlotte, NC is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design and delivery of healthcare projects across the East Coast. This role is fully remote with periodic travel for site visits, client meetings, and project milestones as needed.
You'll be the technical lead for complex healthcare facilities-hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, imaging suites, clinics-guiding projects from planning through construction closeout. The ideal candidate is a licensed PE with 15+ years of healthcare-focused experience spanning lighting, normal and essential power distribution, emergency/standby power systems, and fire alarm/mass notification.
What You'll Do
- Own electrical design delivery for healthcare projects: basis-of-design, calculations, drawings, and specifications across normal, critical, and life safety branches.
- Lead power system design including medium/low-voltage distribution, automatic transfer switches (ATS), paralleling gear, generator sizing, UPS systems, and selective coordination studies.
- Design life-safety systems: fire alarm, nurse call interfaces, mass notification, and integration with BAS and security (as applicable).
- Lighting and controls: code-compliant, energy-efficient lighting design, controls sequences, and photometric analysis tailored to healthcare environments.
- Code and standards compliance: interpret and apply NEC, NFPA 70/99/101, IBC/IFC, FGI Guidelines for Design and Construction of Health Care Facilities, and local AHJ requirements.
- Healthcare specialty coordination: work directly with clinical planners, architects, and modality vendors for imaging (CT/MRI/PET), surgical suites, central sterile, and critical care units.
- Construction phase services: submittal/RFI reviews, site observations, punch lists, and issue resolution to maintain design intent and patient safety priorities.
- Technical leadership: mentor engineers/designers, perform QA/QC reviews, and uphold firmwide standards and best practices.
- Client-facing delivery: present technical solutions, lead coordination meetings, and support business development proposals and interviews.
- Digital design tools: oversee model/drawing production workflows (Revit/AutoCAD), coordinate with BIM standards, and guide junior staff on model fidelity.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related).
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one U.S. state, with ability to obtain reciprocity on the East Coast.
- 15+ years of electrical engineering experience with a strong portfolio of healthcare projects (inpatient and outpatient).
- Strong working knowledge of NEC codes, and relevant energy codes.
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD; comfortable reviewing/marking up models and sheets.
- Excellent communication skills with proven client-facing experience.
