About the Opportunity
An established, employee-focused engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its growing team in the St. Louis area. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of geotechnical projects across both public and private sectors while playing a key role in technical delivery, client development, and mentoring junior engineers.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in geotechnical engineering design and project management, with the ability to lead projects from proposal through construction. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer looking to take on greater leadership responsibilities while continuing to develop their technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage geotechnical engineering projects from initiation through completion.
- Plan and oversee subsurface investigation programs.
- Perform and review geotechnical analyses related to foundations, retaining structures, slopes, pavements, and site development.
- Prepare and review geotechnical engineering reports, recommendations, and design calculations.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior engineers and technical staff.
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Participate in proposal preparation, business development activities, and client relationship management.
- Support construction-phase services, including observation, recommendations, and problem resolution.
- Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with company quality standards and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of geotechnical engineering experience within a consulting environment.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to obtain Missouri licensure through reciprocity.
- Strong experience with geotechnical investigations, foundation design, earth retention systems, and site development projects.
- Proven ability to manage projects, budgets, and client relationships.
- Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
- Experience leading project teams and mentoring junior staff.
- Strong understanding of geotechnical engineering software and design methodologies.
Preferred Experience
- Experience working on transportation, commercial, industrial, municipal, and infrastructure projects.
- Business development and client management experience.
- Advanced geotechnical engineering education (Master's degree preferred).
- Familiarity with local and regional geotechnical conditions throughout Missouri and the Midwest.
