Senior Project Manager / Professional Geologist

Greater Chicago Area/Hybrid

My client is a privately owned environmental consulting firm seeking a Senior Project Manager / Professional Geologist to take ownership of a high-profile remediation program in Illinois.

This is a unique opportunity to join a highly stable team that has worked together for years and is trusted with one of the region's most complex environmental remediation sites. The project has been active for decades, involves ongoing regulatory oversight, and requires a leader who can confidently manage technical teams, navigate stakeholder relationships, and drive project execution.

The role offers a clear path toward future leadership, including potential ownership opportunities for the right long-term contributor.

  • Manage project scope, budgets, schedules, deliverables, and client communications

  • Oversee multiple concurrent project tasks within a multi-million-dollar program

  • Coordinate and mentor field and technical staff supporting the project

  • Work directly with clients, regulators, legal stakeholders, and technical experts

  • Manage complex remediation efforts involving groundwater, LNAPL, risk-based remediation, and indoor air considerations

  • Review technical reports, regulatory submissions, and project documentation

  • Navigate interactions with co-consultants and provide strong project leadership when technical disagreements arise

  • Conduct site visits and maintain a visible presence with project stakeholders

  • Support business development efforts when applicable

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field

  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) preferred

  • 10-15+ years of environmental consulting experience

  • Strong project management experience overseeing complex remediation projects

  • Extensive knowledge of Illinois environmental regulations and regulatory closure processes

  • Experience with petroleum impacts, groundwater remediation, and LNAPL recovery projects

  • Proven ability to manage large project budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Proficiency with Excel, project tracking, and environmental data management systems

  • Experience with litigation support or expert witness environments is a plus

  • Stable career history with a demonstrated commitment to long-term projects

Benefits

  • Annual bonus opportunities based on performance

  • Hybrid work flexibility with a mix of office and remote work

  • BCBS medical, dental, and vision coverage

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Life insurance, disability coverage, FSA, and PTO

  • Mileage reimbursement for project-related travel

  • Direct mentorship and transition support from the current project leadership team

  • Long-term path toward senior leadership and potential ownership opportunities

Why This Opportunity?

  • Join a highly stable team with many employees who have worked together for 15-20+ years

  • Lead a flagship environmental remediation project with significant visibility and impact

  • Strong backlog and long-term project security

  • Collaborative, family-oriented culture that values long-term careers over job-hopping

  • Opportunity to step into a key leadership position with succession planning already in place
