Senior Transportation Engineering Project Manager | Wall, NJ
This position is ideal for a seasoned engineering professional seeking to take ownership of high-profile transportation and bridge programs across New Jersey. The selected individual will direct the execution of complex infrastructure assignments while building and maintaining partnerships with NJDOT, county agencies, municipalities, transportation authorities, and other public-sector stakeholders. In addition to managing projects, this leader will play a key role in guiding project delivery strategies, overseeing multidisciplinary design efforts, and supporting continued growth within the transportation practice.
The role combines project leadership, client relationship management, technical oversight, and market development. The Project Manager will oversee bridge and transportation projects from initial planning through final construction, including structural rehabilitation programs, bridge replacements, roadway and highway improvements, waterfront infrastructure, and other public works initiatives. Success in this role requires strong coordination with engineering teams, regulatory agencies, contractors, utility providers, and environmental partners to deliver innovative and practical solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct transportation and bridge engineering assignments through all phases of project delivery, including planning, design, permitting, procurement, and construction services.
- Manage a diverse portfolio of infrastructure projects involving bridges, highways, roadways, and municipal transportation facilities.
- Coordinate and lead multidisciplinary teams consisting of structural, roadway, traffic, environmental, geotechnical, and water resources professionals.
- Act as the primary liaison for agency and municipal clients, ensuring strong communication and responsive service throughout project execution.
- Monitor project performance, including schedules, budgets, staffing plans, risk management, and quality standards.
- Review and oversee the development of engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, estimates, and supporting documentation.
- Provide strategic direction on engineering solutions, constructability considerations, and project delivery approaches.
- Facilitate coordination among disciplines and proactively address technical challenges to maintain project momentum.
- Ensure designs and deliverables comply with NJDOT requirements, AASHTO standards, MUTCD guidelines, and other applicable regulations.
- Conduct site evaluations, inspections, field reviews, and structural assessments when required.
- Support the growth and advancement of engineering staff through mentorship, training, and technical guidance.
- Contribute to business development activities, including proposals, scope development, fee negotiations, interviews, and presentations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering; advanced degree in Structural Engineering or a related field is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; New Jersey licensure or ability to obtain through reciprocity preferred.
- 12+ years of experience in bridge, structural, transportation, or civil infrastructure engineering.
- Proven history of successfully delivering transportation or bridge projects from design initiation through construction completion.
- Experience with bridge rehabilitation, bridge replacement, transportation corridors, roadway reconstruction, or related infrastructure programs.
- Working knowledge of industry-standard structural analysis and transportation design software such as LEAP Bridge, MIDAS, LARSA, CSiBridge, STAAD, or comparable platforms.
- Strong understanding of project management best practices, including budgeting, scheduling, resource planning, quality assurance, and risk mitigation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience working directly with clients, regulatory agencies, and project teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical staff, manage project priorities, and foster team development.
- Proven ability to balance multiple assignments while maintaining high-quality deliverables and client satisfaction.
- Prior involvement in proposal preparation, client pursuits, presentations, and other growth-oriented initiatives is beneficial.
