Staff Environmental Scientist - Siting/Routing/Land Use
Overview
We are seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist to join our team in Richmond, VA. This role supports project management efforts in routing and siting studies, local government permitting, environmental permitting, and GIS mapping. The ideal candidate will contribute to a variety of infrastructure-related projects, including electric transmission, renewables, transportation, and oil & gas.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct routing and siting studies, environmental permitting, and GIS mapping.
- Prepare technical reports and regulatory documentation for local, state, and federal agencies.
- Analyze environmental and local data to support alternative analysis and permit applications.
- Collaborate with clients, agencies, and internal teams to deliver high-quality environmental solutions.
- Assist in developing proposals, cost estimates, and strategic plans.
- Support business development efforts in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science, Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Urban & Regional Planning, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of relevant professional experience (consulting preferred).
- Experience with local land use policies, environmental permitting, and regulatory applications.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro, GPS, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Familiarity with both private and public-sector clients is a plus.
Preferred Experience
- Electric transmission, transportation, and renewable energy projects.
- Local and regional knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes.
- Business development experience is a bonus.
