Structural Project Engineer

Imagine driving through Houston and regularly passing buildings you helped bring to life.

A growing structural engineering firm is hiring an engineer to work on multifamily and commercial developments across Houston and nationally. Its projects create new homes, contribute to growing neighborhoods, and give engineers the satisfaction of seeing their work become part of the communities around them.

This is an opportunity for someone who wants to do more than complete calculations in isolation. You will work closely with architects, contractors, and internal project teams, helping turn ambitious architectural concepts into practical, efficient, and buildable structures.

The firm has a strong pipeline and a high volume of active projects, but it is not hiring based on years of experience alone. Quality matters more than tenure. An excellent engineer with two years of experience will be given more opportunity than an average engineer with ten.

As your capability grows, so will your level of ownership.

What you'll be doing

  • Designing structural systems for multifamily and commercial buildings
  • Working extensively with wood-framed construction
  • Developing practical structural solutions that support the architectural vision
  • Coordinating directly with architects, contractors, and other disciplines
  • Preparing calculations, drawings, and construction documentation
  • Responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and resolving field issues
  • Managing projects and priorities in a busy delivery environment
  • Taking increasing ownership of projects as you demonstrate readiness

What they're looking for

  • Approximately 2-10 years of structural engineering experience
  • Experience with commercial, multifamily, residential, or other building structures
  • Wood-framing experience is strongly preferred
  • A sound understanding of gravity and lateral structural systems
  • The ability to communicate clearly through calls, meetings, and email
  • Strong coordination and problem-solving skills
  • Someone who enjoys engineering but also wants to understand how projects are constructed
  • The initiative to take responsibility rather than escalate every decision
  • EIT or PE credentials are welcomed but are not the deciding factor

Direct multifamily experience would be valuable, but the firm is also open to strong engineers from adjacent building and construction environments who have the fundamentals, communication skills, and motivation to learn.

Why consider it?

  • Visible local impact: Work on projects that contribute directly to Houston and its surrounding communities, alongside a broader national portfolio
  • Earlier project ownership: Take responsibility based on your ability rather than waiting for a predetermined number of years
  • Architectural collaboration: Work closely with architects to make visually interesting designs structurally practical
  • Full-project exposure: Stay involved from structural design and documentation through construction administration
  • Merit-based progression: Grow into project management and leadership when you are ready, not simply when a title becomes available
  • Paid overtime: Additional hours are compensated at 1.5x
  • Supportive environment: Join a relaxed, hard-working team where people collaborate without unnecessary corporate hierarchy
  • Long-term opportunity: The firm is growing and wants to develop people who can become an important part of its future leadership

This role will suit someone who wants their work to be both technically meaningful and physically visible. You will be expected to engineer, communicate, coordinate, and take ownership, but you will also have the support and training to continue developing.
