My client is looking for a junior-mid level Botanist to support projects in Sacramento, CA.
Qualifications:
We seek individuals who excel in their daily tasks, are dedicated to enhancing their scientific expertise, and thrive on interdisciplinary collaboration. The ideal candidate holds a degree in biology, ecology, or a related field and possesses a blend of the following attributes:
- Demonstrated field proficiency spanning 1-5 years
- Specialized training in a specific ecological domain (e.g., plant, grassland, restoration)
- Knowledge or training in California rangeland ecology and management or related areas (e.g., invasive plant management, forestry)
- Master's degree preferred, though candidates with demonstrated expertise in biological sciences, natural resources management, or rangeland management will be considered
- Exceptional organization and writing skills
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities
- A commitment to advancing ecological understanding
- Ideally, certification as a California Certified Rangeland Manager within two years of employment (though not mandatory)
Responsibilities:
- Crafting watershed assessments and natural resource management plans that harmonize the utilization of open spaces with ecological preservation and ecosystem advantages
- Executing the conservation initiatives outlined in regional Habitat Conservation Plans and similar large-scale habitat preservation schemes
- Collaborating with major private landholders to establish mitigation and conservation banks
- Devising comprehensive programs for managing invasive plant species in an integrated manner
- Providing support for the development and operation of renewable energy projects within the Central Valley region
- Evaluating meadows and watersheds across the Sierra Nevada range and devising restoration schemes to enhance ecological functionalities
- Spearheading surveys, population monitoring efforts, and permitting endeavors related to various species including Swainson's hawks, burrowing owls, California red-legged frogs, California tiger salamanders, salmonids, native bumblebees, and vernal pool branchiopods
