Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Water/Wastewater Environmental Engineer to join our growing team in Phoenix, Arizona. This leadership-focused role offers the opportunity to work on complex and impactful municipal water and wastewater projects throughout Arizona and the Southwest while serving as a technical resource, project leader, and mentor to junior staff.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in water and wastewater treatment processes, regulatory compliance, and infrastructure planning while also demonstrating the ability to manage projects, foster client relationships, and support business development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership
- Lead the planning, evaluation, and design of water and wastewater treatment facilities and supporting infrastructure.
- Prepare and oversee process evaluations, facility master plans, technical memorandums, engineering reports, and permit applications.
- Provide technical guidance on treatment process selection, facility upgrades, optimization studies, and capacity evaluations.
- Perform quality control reviews of engineering calculations, reports, plans, and specifications.
- Support projects through planning, design, permitting, bidding, and construction phases.
Project Management
- Manage multiple water and wastewater projects simultaneously, ensuring successful delivery on schedule and within budget.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation professionals.
- Lead client meetings and serve as a trusted advisor throughout project execution.
- Monitor project scope, financial performance, schedules, and resource allocation.
Client Development
- Build and maintain relationships with municipalities, water districts, and utility clients throughout Arizona.
- Support proposal preparation, project pursuits, and interview presentations.
- Identify opportunities for growth with existing and prospective clients.
- Represent the firm at professional organizations and industry events.
Team Development
- Mentor, coach, and develop junior engineers and project staff.
- Provide technical training and career development guidance.
- Help foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 8+ years of experience in water and wastewater engineering consulting.
- Strong knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes and infrastructure systems.
- Experience managing municipal infrastructure projects and client relationships.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
- Ability to mentor technical staff and contribute to team growth.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering.
- Experience with treatment plant expansion, rehabilitation, and optimization projects.
- Familiarity with ADEQ, EPA, and local regulatory requirements.
- Experience developing facility master plans and capital improvement programs.
- Existing relationships with Arizona municipalities and water agencies.
- Previous experience leading project teams and managing client accounts.
