Senior Bridge Project Manager / Structural Lead

Position Overview

A well-established employee-owned engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Bridge Project Manager / Structural Lead to support the continued growth of its bridge practice in the Richmond, Virginia area. This leadership position offers the opportunity to manage complex bridge and transportation structure projects while mentoring staff, developing client relationships, and helping expand the local bridge engineering team.

The successful candidate will oversee project delivery from planning and design through construction, ensuring projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor bridge engineering staff, providing coaching, guidance, and performance feedback.
  • Support professional growth through regular team meetings, project debriefs, and career development initiatives.
  • Help grow and strengthen the local bridge engineering team.

Project Management

  • Provide technical leadership on bridge and transportation structure projects from preliminary engineering through final design and construction support.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, budgets, and resource allocations.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and subconsultants.
  • Develop project management and quality management plans.
  • Track project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare project status reports, review invoices, and manage client deliverables.
  • Oversee preparation of construction plans and technical documents.

Business Development & Client Relations

  • Support pursuit efforts, including proposal development, interviews, and go/no-go evaluations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with public and private sector clients.
  • Communicate project updates and key milestones to stakeholders.
  • Lead project presentations and participate in financial and operational meetings.
  • Assist with strategic growth initiatives for the bridge practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis from an accredited program.
  • 10+ years of bridge and structural engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven experience managing bridge design projects.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Experience working with state DOTs, municipalities, and transportation agencies.
  • Familiarity with multiple project delivery methods, including Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, and P3.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
