An established mechanical contractor is looking for an experienced Building Automation Manager to lead and develop its controls department across Minnesota.
This is a senior leadership role focused on the overall success of the Building Automation division. Rather than managing individual projects day to day, you will oversee the team, improve departmental processes, support sales growth, manage financial performance, and ensure projects are delivered effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Building Automation department and establish clear performance objectives
- Recruit, mentor, retain, and develop controls professionals
- Build succession plans and create progression opportunities across the team
- Develop and implement strategies to grow the BAS division
- Support the sales team with pipeline development and key opportunities
- Build relationships with building owners, facility teams, contractors, and industry partners
- Oversee departmental revenue, gross margin, profitability, and forecasting
- Improve workflows, resource planning, and operational processes
- Coordinate sales, engineering, project management, service, and field operations
- Remove obstacles that could affect project delivery or customer commitments
- Ensure the department delivers a consistently high level of customer service
- Identify opportunities to introduce new technologies and innovative BAS solutions
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and changing customer requirements
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, safety, and continuous improvement
What We're Looking For
- At least 5 years of experience within Building Automation, BMS, DDC, or HVAC controls
- Previous management or leadership experience within a BAS environment
- Strong understanding of controls projects, service operations, engineering, and sales
- Experience leading multidisciplinary technical and operational teams
- Commercial knowledge of revenue, gross margin, forecasting, and profitability
- Ability to improve departmental efficiency and support sustainable growth
- Experience building direct relationships with owners and key decision-makers
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Experience overseeing complex or multimillion-dollar projects would be beneficial
- Familiarity with platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Distech, Honeywell, or Automated Logic would be advantageous
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, business, construction management, or a related field is preferred
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel regionally as required
