About the Opportunity
A nationally recognized engineering and consulting firm is seeking a Building Envelope Consultant to join its growing San Francisco Bay Area office. This position is ideal for a licensed engineer or architect with expertise in building enclosure systems, façades, waterproofing, roofing, and building science. The successful candidate will contribute to complex projects involving the investigation, design, rehabilitation, and performance evaluation of building envelope systems across a variety of building types.
This role provides an opportunity to work alongside industry-leading experts on technically challenging projects throughout Northern California and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform investigations and assessments of existing building enclosure systems, including façades, roofing, waterproofing, windows, and exterior wall assemblies.
- Conduct field evaluations, condition assessments, and construction observations.
- Diagnose water intrusion, air leakage, condensation, and building envelope performance issues.
- Develop repair, rehabilitation, and restoration recommendations.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, drawings, and construction documents.
- Support clients throughout design, construction, and post-construction phases.
- Collaborate with architects, owners, contractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Perform forensic evaluations and failure analyses of enclosure systems.
- Manage project deliverables, schedules, and budgets.
- Participate in client development activities and help maintain existing client relationships.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) license required.
- 5-10 years of experience in building enclosure consulting, façade engineering, building science, restoration consulting, or related fields.
- Strong technical knowledge of:
- Curtain wall systems
- Exterior cladding assemblies
- Roofing and waterproofing systems
- Air and moisture barriers
- Building envelope performance and durability
- Façade rehabilitation and repair
- Experience conducting site investigations and building condition assessments.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and client-facing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with forensic investigations and litigation support services.
- Building enclosure commissioning experience.
- Familiarity with California building codes and industry standards.
- Project management experience.
- Passion for building science and high-performance building design.
