Chicago | Construction Engineer
A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a Construction Engineer to join its expanding construction inspection team in the Chicagoland area. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse mix of public and private infrastructure projects, including roadway improvements, utility installation, site development, and mass grading projects.
The ideal candidate will have experience in construction engineering and inspection, with the ability to serve as a client-facing representative while overseeing the successful delivery of infrastructure projects. This role may also involve engineering design support, plan review, and cost estimating responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the onsite representative and primary point of contact for project owners and clients
- Oversee construction of roadway, drainage, and utility infrastructure projects
- Perform construction observation and inspection activities
- Manage project contract administration and documentation
- Prepare quantity takeoffs, design calculations, and cost estimates
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Lead client meetings and provide project updates
- Mentor and supervise junior staff members
- Assist with scheduling, document control, and project coordination efforts
- Support additional engineering and project-related activities as needed
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering
- 5+ years of construction engineering, construction inspection, or hybrid design/construction experience
- PE license or actively pursuing licensure preferred
- Experience working on IDOT projects required
- IDOT certifications required
- Familiarity with state and regional design and construction standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with MicroStation preferred
- Valid driver's license
