Role Overview

As a Civil Engineering Principal, you will play a key leadership role in the growth and success of the firm's Columbus operations. This position combines technical excellence, team leadership, client relationship management, and business development responsibilities. You will oversee complex land development and civil engineering projects, mentor and develop engineering staff, and actively contribute to expanding the firm's presence across the Ohio market.

The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor to clients, a strong leader within the organization, and a visible presence within the local development and engineering community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of land development projects from initial planning and design through permitting, construction, and project closeout.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the Ohio land development market.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, staffing, and overall project performance.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality control for civil engineering designs and deliverables.
  • Guide project teams through site planning, grading design, stormwater management, utility design, and permitting processes.
  • Collaborate with municipalities, regulatory agencies, contractors, developers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, project managers, and emerging leaders within the organization.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives and contribute to the continued expansion of the practice.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 14+ years of experience in Land Development consulting.
  • Proven experience managing complex site development projects.
  • Strong technical understanding of site design, grading, stormwater management, and utility infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated success managing client relationships and winning new work.
  • Experience preparing proposals, negotiating scopes, and overseeing project execution.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and team development skills.

Preferred

  • Existing relationships within the Ohio development and engineering market.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Strong business development and client-facing experience.
  • Experience managing key accounts and growing market presence.

Compensation & Benefits

Base Salary: $150,000 - $225,000
