My client is seeking a Hydraulic / Drainage Engineer to support the design and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects across Kentucky. This position plays a key role in developing drainage and hydraulic solutions for highways, bridges, and roadway improvements, helping ensure critical infrastructure remains safe, resilient, and operational for years to come.

Working closely with transportation design teams, you'll contribute to a variety of KYTC and local agency projects, performing hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, drainage design, floodplain evaluations, and stormwater management planning from concept through final design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses for transportation projects
  • Design roadway drainage systems, storm sewers, culverts, channels, and detention facilities
  • Complete bridge and culvert hydraulic studies
  • Prepare drainage reports and supporting technical documentation for KYTC submissions
  • Conduct floodplain, scour, and stormwater analyses
  • Support project delivery from preliminary engineering through final design
  • Coordinate with transportation designers, clients, and regulatory agencies
  • Assist with permitting efforts and drainage-related design reviews

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in drainage, hydraulics, stormwater, or water resources engineering
  • Experience supporting roadway and transportation infrastructure projects
  • PE license or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe
  • Proficiency with:
    • MicroStation
    • OpenRoads Designer
    • HEC-RAS
    • HEC-HMS
    • HY-8
  • Experience preparing drainage calculations and technical reports for DOT projects
  • Strong understanding of stormwater management, hydraulic design, and drainage systems
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams

Preferred Experience

  • Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) project experience
  • Bridge hydraulics and scour analysis
  • FEMA floodplain studies and permitting
  • Highway, interstate, and rural roadway improvement projects
  • Task leadership, project coordination, and client-facing responsibilities
