Position Overview

The Head of Asset Management will be responsible for the overall performance of the platform's renewable energy portfolio in Japan. This leadership role combines commercial, financial, technical, and stakeholder management responsibilities to ensure assets operate safely, efficiently, and profitably.

The successful candidate will oversee asset performance, cash flow management, technical operations, local community engagement, lender relationships, and the continued development of the asset management team.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio & Asset Performance Management

  • Lead the asset management strategy across the operating renewable energy portfolio.
  • Monitor and optimize asset performance, availability, and energy production.
  • Identify and implement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and asset value.
  • Oversee asset lifecycle planning, including major maintenance and repowering opportunities.

Financial & Cash Flow Management

  • Manage asset-level budgets, forecasts, and financial performance.
  • Monitor cash flow generation and ensure achievement of financial targets.
  • Drive initiatives to improve profitability and maximize investor returns.
  • Oversee distributions, reserve accounts, and compliance with financing agreements.
  • Prepare performance reports for shareholders, lenders, and senior management.

Community & Stakeholder Relations

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local communities, landowners, municipalities, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage community concerns and ensure positive long-term relationships around project sites.
  • Represent the company in discussions with local authorities and relevant industry stakeholders.
  • Support ESG and sustainability initiatives across the portfolio.

Technical Asset Management

  • Oversee the technical performance of renewable energy assets.
  • Work closely with O&M providers, EPC contractors, and technical advisors.
  • Monitor operational KPIs, equipment performance, warranty claims, and major corrective actions.
  • Ensure compliance with technical, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead technical due diligence and support acquisitions and integration of new assets.

Commercial & Contract Management

  • Manage relationships with offtakers, utilities, lenders, contractors, and service providers.
  • Oversee key contracts including O&M, land leases, insurance, PPAs, and financing agreements.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance commercial performance and reduce operational risk.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Build, mentor, and lead the asset management team.
  • Establish best practices, reporting standards, and operational procedures.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate closely with investment, development, finance, and executive leadership teams.

Requirements

Essential

  • 10+ years of experience in renewable energy, infrastructure, power generation, or asset management.
  • Proven experience managing operating energy assets with P&L or portfolio responsibility.
  • Strong understanding of project finance structures, cash flow management, and lender requirements.
  • Experience managing multiple stakeholders, including investors, lenders, contractors, and local communities.
  • Leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Business-level English and Japanese communication skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or other renewable energy assets.
  • Knowledge of the Japanese power market and regulatory environment.
  • Experience with M&A integration, operational due diligence, or portfolio expansion.
  • Familiarity with CPPA structures and merchant market exposure.
  • Experience working with private equity, infrastructure funds, or institutional investors.
