HVAC Controls Estimator

About the Role

We are seeking a Building Automation Estimator / Account Manager to support the continued growth of our Building Automation Controls division. This is a senior-level, hybrid position focused primarily on estimating and executing bid-and-specification (bid & spec) controls projects while also managing relationships with mechanical contractor partners.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience estimating Building Automation System (BAS) projects and be comfortable taking a project from mechanical drawings and design concepts through complete proposal development and presentation. While account management is part of the role, the primary focus is technical estimating and supporting the bid process.

This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in a growing division, with long-term potential to help build and lead a larger estimating team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate estimates for Building Automation and HVAC Controls bid & spec projects.
  • Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and project documentation to develop complete controls solutions.
  • Perform controls take-offs from mechanical plans.
  • Design BAS solutions and develop scope, bill of materials, labor estimates, and pricing.
  • Work closely with mechanical contractors throughout the bidding process.
  • Support Account Managers with estimating, proposal development, and technical consultation.
  • Prepare and present proposals to customers and contractor partners.
  • Manage relationships with a network of mechanical contractors and bid partners.
  • Coordinate with engineering, operations, and project teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Assist with both plan-and-specification and direct-owner opportunities.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in Building Automation, HVAC Controls, or BAS estimating.
  • Experience estimating bid & spec controls projects.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems and Building Automation Systems.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation.
  • Experience developing controls take-offs, system designs, and project pricing.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills.

Preferred:

  • 10+ years of relevant Building Automation experience.
  • Experience with both bid & spec and direct-owner opportunities.
  • Previous Building Automation engineering experience.
  • Field experience involving BAS installation, commissioning, startup, programming, or service.
  • Experience working directly with mechanical contractors on construction projects.

What We're Looking For

This role is best suited for someone with a strong technical controls background who enjoys both the estimating and relationship-management sides of the business. We're open to considering candidates with less experience who demonstrate strong BAS estimating capabilities, but our preference is for a senior professional capable of leading complex bid-and-spec projects and helping grow the division over time.

This is an excellent opportunity for a senior BAS professional, controls estimator, applications engineer, or automation specialist looking to step into a highly visible role with significant growth potential and the chance to play a key role in the expansion of a growing controls business.
