Lead Field Service Technician
The Opportunity
A leading provider of industrial and municipal water, wastewater, pump, and process equipment solutions is looking to add a Lead Field Service Representative to its service team in the Northeast.
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for a field service professional who enjoys combining hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, customer interaction, and project leadership while supporting critical water and wastewater infrastructure.
The company serves a diverse client base across municipal utilities, industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and treatment plants, providing equipment, startup, commissioning, maintenance, and emergency service support for pumping, treatment, and fluid handling systems.
Rather than being confined to a single facility, the Lead Field Service Representative will work directly with customers across a variety of sites, serving as a technical expert and field leader while helping ensure the reliability and performance of critical infrastructure assets.
What You'll Be Doing
The Lead Field Service Representative will support the installation, startup, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of water, wastewater, pumping, and process equipment systems across customer facilities.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading field service activities for pump stations, treatment equipment, controls, and related mechanical systems
- Performing equipment startup, commissioning, testing, and operational verification
- Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and process-related equipment issues
- Diagnosing and resolving failures involving pumps, motors, valves, drives, controls, piping systems, and treatment equipment
- Performing preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and equipment upgrades
- Serving as the primary technical resource for customers during field service visits and emergency callouts
- Coordinating service projects and supporting field technicians during complex installations and repairs
- Reviewing drawings, technical manuals, P&IDs, specifications, and equipment documentation
- Preparing service reports, documenting findings, and communicating recommendations to customers and internal teams
- Training operators and maintenance personnel on equipment operation and best practices
- Supporting project managers, engineers, manufacturers, and contractors during project execution
- Helping improve service procedures with a focus on safety, reliability, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
What You Bring
The ideal candidate will have:
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or equivalent field experience
- 5+ years of field service, maintenance, commissioning, or industrial equipment experience
- Strong understanding of rotating equipment, pumping systems, motors, controls, and industrial process equipment
- Experience troubleshooting complex mechanical and electrical systems in the field
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and specifications
- Experience working within municipal water, wastewater, industrial manufacturing, or process environments
- Working knowledge of some combination of:
- Pumps and pumping systems
- Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Motors and motor controls
- SCADA and control systems
- Wastewater treatment equipment
- Instrumentation and process controls
- Industrial electrical systems
- Strong customer-facing communication skills and ability to build trusted client relationships
- Ability to independently manage field assignments while leading and mentoring less experienced technicians
- Willingness to travel throughout the region and support occasional emergency service requirements
Experience specifically within water and wastewater infrastructure would be highly valuable, but candidates coming from industrial maintenance, power generation, manufacturing, chemical processing, food and beverage, mechanical contracting, equipment OEMs, or service-based industrial environments could also be highly relevant.
