Structural Engineer | Data Center Infrastructure
Location: Delaware / Columbus, Ohio area
Experience: 5+ years

The Opportunity
A global leader in critical digital infrastructure is looking to add a Structural Engineer to its New Product Development team in Ohio.
This is a particularly interesting opportunity for a structural engineer who wants to move beyond traditional consulting and become directly involved in the development, engineering and delivery of modular steel infrastructure designed for next-generation data centers and high-density computing environments.
The company operates internationally and develops infrastructure across the power, cooling and IT ecosystem supporting modern data centers. Its continued investment in AI-ready infrastructure includes technology designed to improve the performance and resilience of increasingly high-demand data center environments.
Rather than working on one-off building projects, the engineer will operate within a multidisciplinary product development environment, collaborating across structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and site engineering teams.
What You'll Be Doing
The Structural Engineer will support the structural development and delivery of low-to-medium complexity modular steel building systems, from early engineering through fabrication, assembly and implementation.
Responsibilities will include:
- Developing structural solutions for modular steel buildings and infrastructure systems
- Building and coordinating structural 3D models
- Performing static and dynamic structural calculations
- Producing workshop drawings, lifting plans, anchoring layouts, specifications and supporting technical documentation
- Designing in accordance with applicable local, national, international and internal engineering standards
- Coordinating with architectural, mechanical, electrical, manufacturing and site engineering teams
- Reviewing workshop documentation and providing technical input into supplier RFQs
- Specifying appropriate structural materials, services and certifications
- Providing engineering support during fabrication and assembly
- Working directly with manufacturing, quality, commissioning and site teams to resolve structural challenges
- Helping improve designs with a focus on safety, constructability, cost-effectiveness and repeatability
What They're Looking For
The ideal engineer will bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- 5+ years of structural/mechanical engineering experience
- Strong understanding of steel structures and structural analysis
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, technical specifications and client requirements
- Working knowledge of applicable building codes and structural standards
- Experience with some combination of:
- Tekla
- Revit
- AutoCAD
- Creo
- SCIA Engineer
- Structural anchoring/design software
- Ability to work effectively across engineering, manufacturing and construction disciplines
- Strong technical problem-solving skills with an eye for practical, buildable solutions
- PE licensure is advantageous but not a requirement
Experience specifically within data centers would be valuable, but engineers coming from modular construction, industrial structures, manufacturing, steel design or other technically complex structural environments could also be highly relevant.
Why This One Stands Out
This isn't a conventional consulting position where the structural engineer simply designs the building and moves onto the next project.
The engineer becomes part of the team developing the actual infrastructure systems that are manufactured, assembled and deployed into data center environments.
That provides exposure across the complete engineering lifecycle:
Design → Analysis → Detailing → Manufacturing → Fabrication → Site Implementation
There is also a strong innovation angle. The underlying business is investing heavily in infrastructure supporting the growth of AI and high-density computing. Its recently launched predictive technology, for example, applies AI-based anomaly detection and predictive analytics across data-center power and cooling infrastructure to identify risks before they affect operations.
For a structural engineer, this creates the chance to work in an environment where structural engineering, manufacturing, technology and mission-critical infrastructure intersect, rather than being restricted to traditional vertical-building design.
Travel & Collaboration
The role will require approximately 15-25% domestic and international travel, primarily supporting project coordination, manufacturing, fabrication and project implementation.
The successful engineer should therefore enjoy being involved beyond the calculations and drawings and be comfortable working directly with multidisciplinary engineering and delivery teams.
