My client is a growing structural engineering consultancy delivering complex new construction, renovation, and adaptive reuse projects across commercial, industrial, and institutional markets.
They are seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to join their expanding Minneapolis team. This role offers the opportunity to lead projects, mentor engineers, develop client relationships, and influence the continued growth of the local office, while remaining actively involved in structural design and analysis.
It is particularly well suited to an experienced engineer who wants greater leadership responsibility without moving away from the technical work they enjoy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural engineering projects from early concept and system selection through construction.
- Design and analyse steel, reinforced concrete, and masonry building systems.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, technical delivery, and internal quality standards.
- Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Coordinate directly with architects, contractors, owners, and other project partners.
- Lead renovation, adaptive reuse, and new construction assignments across multiple market sectors.
- Perform site visits, structural assessments, investigations, and construction milestone reviews.
- Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings, and provide technical support during construction.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers through technical guidance, coaching, and design reviews.
- Support client relationships and contribute to the continued growth of the Minneapolis practice.
- Help improve project delivery through structural analysis technology and BIM-led workflows.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- 7+ years of structural engineering experience, primarily involving building structures.
- Professional Engineer licence required.
- Experience leading structural projects and coordinating multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong technical background in structural steel and reinforced concrete design.
- Experience with low- to mid-rise commercial and/or light industrial buildings.
- Knowledge of shallow foundation systems and standard construction practices.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and modelling software.
- Working knowledge of ICC, ACI, AISC, and ASCE standards.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective client relationships.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for site visits and project requirements.
Preferred Experience
- Renovation, adaptive reuse, and existing building projects.
- Steel-framed industrial, manufacturing, distribution, or temperature-controlled facilities.
- Advanced structural analysis software and BIM project delivery.
- Post-tensioned concrete design.
- Master's degree in Structural Engineering or a related discipline
- Structural Engineer licence
