Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)
The Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) will be responsible for:
- Managing and overseeing a variety of surveying projects for transportation, infrastructure, utility, municipal, and private development clients.
- Serving as the Surveyor of Record and certifying survey deliverables in accordance with applicable state laws, regulations, and professional standards.
- Planning, directing, and coordinating field crews and office staff to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, on schedule, and within budget.
- Reviewing and approving boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, right-of-way surveys, topographic surveys, easement exhibits, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
- Supporting SCDOT and other public agency projects through survey control, right-of-way acquisition surveys, route surveys, drainage surveys, and transportation-related mapping services.
- Maintaining quality control procedures and ensuring compliance with client specifications, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, project managers, engineers, contractors, and public agencies while supporting business development efforts and proposal preparation.
The Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) should have the following qualifications:
- Active Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in South Carolina, or the ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity within a reasonable timeframe.
- Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- 7+ years of progressively responsible land surveying experience, including transportation and infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience working with SCDOT standards, procedures, and deliverables preferred.
- Strong knowledge of boundary law, right-of-way surveys, construction staking, GPS/GNSS technologies, robotic total stations, terrestrial scanning, and survey data processing.
- Proficiency with industry software such as Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, MicroStation, Carlson Survey, or similar platforms.
- Proven leadership, project management, and client-facing experience with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
