Senior Drainage Engineer

Senior Water Resources / Drainage Engineer (PE) | Tampa or Lakeland, FL

A respected engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Water Resources / Drainage Engineer to support a variety of transportation-related drainage and stormwater projects throughout Florida. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer whose expertise is rooted in water resources, hydrology, hydraulics, and drainage design, rather than roadway design, and who enjoys solving complex stormwater challenges for transportation infrastructure.

You'll work on projects involving drainage studies, stormwater management systems, culvert and bridge hydraulics, scour evaluations, floodplain impacts, and permitting support for state and local transportation agencies.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead drainage and stormwater design efforts for transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic analyses to support roadway, bridge, and corridor improvements.
  • Develop stormwater management solutions that comply with FDOT and local agency requirements.
  • Design drainage conveyance systems, culverts, roadside ditches, and stormwater facilities.
  • Complete scour analyses and hydraulic evaluations for bridge and crossing structures.
  • Prepare drainage reports, permit documentation, engineering calculations, and technical memoranda.
  • Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Utilize modeling tools such as ICPR4, HEC-RAS, and SWMM to support project delivery.
  • Conduct field investigations, site assessments, and verification of existing drainage conditions.
  • Collaborate with roadway, structures, environmental, and permitting teams throughout project development.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 8+ years of experience in water resources, drainage, or stormwater engineering.
  • Strong experience supporting transportation infrastructure projects from a drainage and H&H perspective.
  • Proficiency with:
    • HEC-RAS
    • ICPR
    • SWMM
    • Civil 3D
    • MicroStation
    • FDOT Connect/OpenRoads Designer
  • Experience working with FDOT and Florida municipal or transportation agencies.
  • Strong understanding of stormwater regulations, drainage criteria, and hydraulic design practices.
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills.

Why This Opportunity?

This role offers the chance to work on some of Florida's most impactful infrastructure projects while remaining focused on what you do best: water resources engineering. You'll join a collaborative team where drainage and stormwater expertise is highly valued, with opportunities to lead technical work, mentor junior staff, and contribute to projects that improve the resilience and performance of Florida's transportation network.

Ideal background: A water resources engineer, drainage engineer, stormwater engineer, or H&H engineer with transportation project experience, rather than a traditional roadway design engineer.
