Senior Roadway Project Manager
A growing civil engineering firm is seeking a Senior Roadway Project Manager to support the continued expansion of its transportation practice across South Carolina. This person will lead roadway projects, work directly with clients, and serve as a key technical leader on project pursuits and proposals.
The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of roadway or transportation engineering experience and be comfortable independently managing projects and coordinating with clients. While this person does not need to be the primary business developer immediately, they should be interested in growing into a larger client development and market leadership role.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage roadway design and transportation infrastructure projects from planning through final delivery.
- Serve as a Project Manager or Roadway Lead on project proposals and active assignments.
- Oversee project schedules, budgets, deliverables, quality standards, and team coordination.
- Communicate directly with clients to understand their needs and provide effective technical solutions.
- Support proposal development, project pursuits, presentations, and interviews.
- Help strengthen existing client relationships and identify new opportunities throughout South Carolina.
- Attend client meetings independently or alongside other members of the leadership team.
- Represent the firm at conferences, industry events, and professional organizations.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineering and design staff.
- Support the long-term growth and strategic direction of the South Carolina roadway practice.
Qualifications
- 8-10 years of experience in roadway design, transportation engineering, or related infrastructure projects.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer license preferred, ideally with the ability to obtain South Carolina licensure.
- Demonstrated experience independently managing roadway projects and leading technical teams.
- Strong understanding of project schedules, budgets, quality control, and overall project delivery.
- Experience working directly with clients and serving in a client-facing leadership capacity.
- Project experience that would strengthen proposals in a Project Manager or Roadway Lead role.
- Familiarity with the South Carolina transportation market and public-sector clients is strongly preferred.
- Interest in developing client relationships and growing into a business development or market leadership position.
- Active involvement, or a willingness to become involved, in conferences, professional organizations, and industry groups.
- Strong communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
- Willingness to travel throughout South Carolina as needed.
