Municipal Technical Lead

Our client is a well-established, full-service engineering and project management firm based in Fort Collins. They are part of a multidisciplinary organization ranked on the ENR Top 500 Design Firms list. They work across water and wastewater, transportation, utilities, and municipal facilities, and they are known for strong client relationships and long-term career growth for their people.

They are looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to be the technical backbone of their civil municipal design practice across northern Colorado. This role is the go-to expert and senior design reviewer. You will protect quality on every deliverable and mentor the next generation of engineers, with less of the pursuit and sales pressure that comes with a typical PM role.

What You'll Do

  • Lead design on municipal projects covering water, sewer, stormwater, roadway, and grading
  • Review plans, specs, calculations, and estimates at each design phase before they go to the client
  • Make sure work meets local agency criteria and regulatory requirements
  • Help shape the group's design standards, checklists, and QA/QC process
  • Coach engineers and designers at all levels, including those working toward their PE
  • Weigh in on design approach, alternatives, and constructability
  • Serve as Engineer of Record on select projects
  • Be the point person for technical questions from project teams, agencies, and contractors
  • Support projects through construction, including submittals, RFIs, and field issues
  • Contribute technical input to scopes, budgets, and proposals

What You Bring

  • BS in Civil Engineering
  • Colorado PE
  • Roughly 15 years of civil design experience, with a municipal and public agency focus
  • Background in some combination of water distribution, sewer collection, storm drainage, roadway and pavement, and site design
  • Pump station or lift station design exposure
  • Experience as a senior reviewer, QC lead, or technical lead on multi-discipline projects
  • A track record of mentoring
  • Civil 3D and hydraulic/hydrologic modeling experience
  • Solid communication skills for working with clients, councils, and the public

Nice to have: Northern Colorado agency experience, treatment plant work, ArcGIS, construction-phase experience, or experience building out a QA/QC program

Why It's Worth a Look

  • Senior-level influence without a business development quota
  • A direct voice in how the design group operates
  • Collaboration with a broad mix of in-house disciplines
  • A people-first culture with regular team events and community involvement

Benefits

  • Annual performance review and bonus eligibility
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • Medical, dental, and vision
  • Disability and life coverage
  • Education reimbursement and other perks
