About the Opportunity
A leading mechanical contractor in the Charlotte market is seeking an experienced Plumbing Estimator to join its growing preconstruction team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for commercial plumbing projects while collaborating with project managers, operations leaders, vendors, and clients throughout the bidding process.
The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of commercial plumbing systems, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed plumbing estimates for commercial and industrial construction projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents to determine project scope.
- Perform quantity takeoffs for plumbing systems, equipment, piping, fixtures, and associated materials.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations.
- Develop accurate labor, material, and equipment cost projections.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and cost-saving alternatives.
- Collaborate with project management and operations teams during project handoff.
- Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information.
- Assist in budgeting, conceptual estimating, and design-build proposals.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of estimating experience within commercial plumbing, mechanical, or MEP construction.
- Strong understanding of commercial plumbing systems and installation practices.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Experience with estimating software and digital takeoff tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize workload effectively.
Preferred Experience
- Experience estimating healthcare, data center, life sciences, manufacturing, education, or large commercial projects.
- Familiarity with design-build and negotiated work.
- Knowledge of Bluebeam, Trimble AutoBid, QuickPen, or similar estimating software.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
