Roadway Engineer

A growing engineering consultancy is looking for an experienced Roadway Project Engineer to support the design and delivery of transportation projects across South Carolina.

This opportunity is ideal for a licensed PE who enjoys managing roadway design efforts, mentoring junior engineers, and working on meaningful infrastructure projects. You'll collaborate with experienced project managers and technical teams while taking ownership of key design tasks and helping deliver projects for SCDOT and local transportation clients.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and support the design of roadway, highway, intersection, and transportation improvement projects.
  • Prepare and review roadway plans, specifications, calculations, estimates, and technical reports.
  • Coordinate with SCDOT, local municipalities, subconsultants, and internal project teams.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, design tasks, and technical deliverables.
  • Perform quality control reviews to ensure designs meet applicable standards and client requirements.
  • Support project managers with client communication, proposals, and project coordination.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to EITs and junior roadway engineers.
  • Assist with the delivery of projects from preliminary design through final construction plans.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer license required, preferably licensed in South Carolina or able to obtain reciprocity.
  • 7+ years of roadway or transportation engineering experience.
  • Experience working on SCDOT or similar DOT transportation projects.
  • Strong knowledge of roadway design, plan production, and project delivery.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, or similar roadway design software.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Strong communication, organization, and team leadership skills.
  • Previous experience mentoring junior engineers or coordinating design teams is preferred.

Why This Role?

This is an excellent opportunity for a roadway engineer who is ready to take on greater project responsibility without stepping away from technical design. You'll work on a strong pipeline of transportation projects, contribute to infrastructure improvements across South Carolina, and have a clear path toward project management and future leadership opportunities.
