Transportation Engineer
What You'll Be Doing
Design
- Develop a range of traffic engineering designs, including:
- Traffic signal layouts
- Signage, striping, and pavement marking plans
- Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) plans
- Street lighting design and photometric studies
- Put together complete Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) packages for transportation improvement projects
Traffic Operations & Analysis
- Help produce traffic impact studies, safety assessments, and technical memos
- Build or help build signal timing plans, coordination strategies, and operational analyses using industry-standard tools
- Carry out field reviews and collect data
- Run intersection capacity and operations analyses in Synchro
- Help evaluate multimodal improvements for pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders
Project Delivery
- Work closely with internal teams, public agency staff, utility providers, and outside stakeholders
- Make sure designs meet California MUTCD, HCM, Caltrans, and local agency standards
- Support project management, including:
- Scheduling
- Budget monitoring
- Client communication
- Deliverable preparation
- Check junior staff's work for technical accuracy and completeness
- Help with proposals, scoping, and technical interviews when opportunities come up
What You'll Bring
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- 5+ years of progressive experience in traffic engineering or transportation design
- EIT certification and a path to PE licensure
- Strong skills in Auto-CAD or Civil 3D
- Working knowledge of the California MUTCD, Highway Design Manual, Caltrans Standard Plans and Specifications, and local agency design standards
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Nice to Have
- California PE license
- Hands-on experience with Synchro, SimTraffic, HCS, Auto-TURN, or similar traffic software
- Experience preparing PS&E packages for public agency projects
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam
- Experience working with municipal and state transportation agencies
