Safety Manager- Underground Utilities
A growing underground utility contractor is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to lead and build an in-house safety program from the ground up. This is a unique opportunity for a safety professional who wants to make a lasting impact by developing processes, training, and safety culture across the organization.
The company specializes in water, sewer, storm drain, lift station, and deep excavation projects throughout the DFW Metroplex. Historically, safety has been managed through a third-party provider, and leadership is now committed to bringing the program in-house. They are looking for someone who can take ownership, improve existing procedures, and create a best-in-class safety program without requiring constant oversight.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage the company's safety program.
- Create and maintain project-specific safety plans, JHAs, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct jobsite audits, inspections, and safety observations.
- Lead safety training, onboarding, and toolbox talks.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, local, and client safety requirements.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and corrective actions.
- Partner with field leadership to promote a strong safety culture.
- Develop safety metrics, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain all required safety documentation and records.
- Support project teams across water, sewer, storm drain, lift station, shoring, and deep excavation projects.
Requirements
- Experience building or significantly improving a construction safety program.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and heavy civil construction safety practices.
- Experience supporting underground utility construction projects.
- Working knowledge of excavation safety, trench protection systems, shoring, confined space, and utility installation operations.
- Ability to work independently and drive safety initiatives with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- OSHA 500, CHST, CSP, or similar certifications are highly preferred.
