Base Salary: $130,000 - $170,000, depending on experience

Role Overview
An established regional contractor is seeking an experienced Estimator to lead bids for heavy civil, municipal, utility, and general construction projects.
This is a hands-on position responsible for the full estimating process, including plan and specification review, quantity takeoffs, pricing, subcontractor outreach, bid strategy, and final submission. The ideal candidate understands how projects are built and can develop complete estimates covering both self-performed and subcontracted work.
The position offers exposure to a varied project portfolio, including sitework, underground utilities, structural concrete, water and wastewater infrastructure, process mechanical systems, and specialized building scopes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage estimates from initial opportunity review through final bid submission
- Review plans, specifications, addenda, and contract requirements
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for civil, structural, mechanical, and building-related scopes
- Develop estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project requirements
- Determine appropriate construction means, methods, sequencing, and production assumptions
- Solicit, review, and compare pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits
- Prepare and submit pre-bid questions and track clarifications throughout the bidding process
- Complete lump-sum and unit-price estimates for public and private projects
- Identify scope gaps, project risks, constructability concerns, and pricing opportunities
- Develop preliminary schedules, workforce plans, and equipment requirements
- Support subcontractor buyout, updated pricing, and the transition from estimating to operations
- Assist with required vendor outreach, participation documentation, and bid compliance
- Present completed estimates and bid strategies to company leadership
What They're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience in construction estimating, project engineering, or project management
- Experience taking ownership of bids as a lead estimator
- Background estimating heavy civil, municipal, utility, water/wastewater, or general construction projects
- Strong ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Experience pricing self-performed labor, equipment, materials, and subcontracted scopes
- Strong understanding of construction means, methods, sequencing, and production rates
- Experience with quantity takeoff and estimating software
- Proficiency with Excel, scheduling tools, and standard Microsoft applications
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Willingness to attend regional site visits and pre-bid meetings
Preferred Experience
- Water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, utilities, or municipal infrastructure
- Earthwork, excavation, concrete, piping, and process mechanical systems
- Publicly bid projects and compliance-driven submissions
- Lump-sum and unit-price contracts
- Bid scheduling and construction planning
- Diverse project scopes involving both civil and vertical construction
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
